Jeffrey E. Deckey, M.D.Board Certified Orthopaedic Spine Surgery
Dr. Deckey is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon. His practice focuses on complex disorders of the spine in adult and pediatric patients. He performs over 350 spinal operations per year. His interests include scoliosis, tumors, fractures, infections, and degenerative conditions of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He is a managing partner of Orthopaedic Specialty Institute of Orange County.
Dr. Deckey is an attending physician at St. Joseph Hospital and Children Hospital of Orange County. He also has privileges at Mission Regional Hospital and Hoag Orthopaedic Irvine.
He received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry with honors from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. He graduated Magna Cum Laude and was elected to the Sigma Xi national science honor society. Following Brown University, Dr. Deckey completed his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City. He also was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society.
Dr. Deckey remained at Columbia University where he completed his surgical internship and orthopaedic surgical residency. During his residency, Dr. Deckey was named Chief Resident and received the Orren D. Baab award for outstanding achievement and leadership. Following Columbia, he completed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. This additional training in complex spinal deformity surgery was under the direction of Dr. David Bradford.
Dr. Deckey remains extremely active in surgeon training, education, research, and innovation. He is currently the principle clinical investigator at St Joseph Hospital in Orange, CA for the Maverick (Medtronics) lumbar disc replacement. He also is clinical investigator for the FDA study for the use of bone morphogenic protein in posterior spinal fusions. Dr. Deckey has published numerous articles, chapters, and has presented at various conferences throughout the nation.
